# E-Jets Series – Service Update 1

![Eastern Airways E-Jet in flight](https://flightsim-studio.com/hubfs/E-Jets/Service%20Update%201/e-jets-su1-header.jpg)

Our first major Service Update for the E-Jets Series is here!

Over the past months, your feedback has helped us identify where the aircraft could benefit most from further improvements. And while reaching major milestones is always exciting, we believe the real value of an aircraft add-on comes from how it continues to evolve afterwards.

Service Update 1 is another step in that direction. Alongside a wide range of bug fixes and refinements (including some much-needed attention to Xbox controller support) we're introducing several new features that bring the E-Jets closer to their real-world counterparts.

Some of these additions will change how you plan and fly your routes, while others focus on the smaller details that make the overall experience more authentic.

Let's take a closer look at what's new.

---

#### New Vertical Navigation Features

🆕 Vertical Direct-To

Until now, Direct-To functionality was limited to lateral navigation. With Service Update 1, you can also perform a Vertical Direct-To.

This is particularly useful when ATC clears you to descend earlier or later than your originally planned Top of Descent (TOD). Instead of remaining in FPA or VS mode for an extended period, you can now calculate a new vertical path from your current altitude and continue your descent using VNAV.

How does it work?

On the ACT RTE page, use the right-hand line select key to copy the altitude constraint of any waypoint into the scratchpad. Then insert it again using the same key.

The FMS will calculate a new vertical path, displayed as a direct magenta line on the Vertical Situation Display (VSD). You can then engage VNAV to follow the newly calculated descent profile.

It's a relatively small addition to the MCDU, but one that makes a meaningful difference when dealing with changing ATC instructions.

🆕 Step Climbs

Step climbs have been part of our E-Jets for some time, although the original implementation was fairly basic. We've now expanded the underlying logic to more closely reflect the capabilities of the real aircraft.

You can schedule a step climb at any waypoint by entering /FLXXXS, with XXX representing your desired flight level.

From that waypoint onwards, the FMS recalculates the planned cruise altitude, and the corresponding altitude change becomes visible on the VSD.

With VNAV engaged, remember to set the new altitude on the glareshield panel in advance. The autopilot can then follow the calculated vertical profile automatically.

We've also added an important performance consideration: aircraft weight.

Whenever you enter a step climb, the FMS calculates the predicted aircraft weight at the selected waypoint. If the aircraft is too heavy to reach the requested altitude, the entry will be rejected with an UNABLE STEP CLIMB message.

#### New Lateral Navigation Features

🆕 FIX INFO

One of the most useful additions for flight planning and situational awareness is the new NAV → FIX INFO page in the MCDU.

FIX INFO allows you to define reference points and visualize radial and distance intersections along your active route.

Simply enter a reference waypoint and use RADIAL/ or /DIST to define the desired intersection. The resulting markers are displayed on the MFD as green circles, making it easier to identify specific positions relative to your flight path.

You can also copy these intersections into the scratchpad and insert them as custom waypoints into your ACT RTE.

#### BeyondATC & SayIntentions Integration

We're continuing to improve how the E-Jets interact with the wider flight simulation ecosystem.

With Service Update 1, both BeyondATC and SayIntentions can now provide PDC, CPDLC, and ATIS information directly through the MCDU.

This allows you to handle more of your communication workflow from within the aircraft, rather than switching between separate applications.

Before using these features, make sure to select your preferred provider on the EFB settings page.

#### New EFB Features

🆕 Takeoff & Landing Performance

We've expanded the EFB with takeoff and landing distance calculations.

Once you've generated your flight manifest, the performance page becomes available, allowing you to calculate the required takeoff and landing distances for your flight.

Alongside this addition, we've also refined the autobrake effectiveness to bring the aircraft's deceleration behaviour closer to real-world performance figures.

The goal is to make performance planning and the aircraft's actual behaviour work more consistently together.

🆕 Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS)

We've added the Honeywell Runway Awareness and Advisory System (RAAS) to all aircraft in the E-Jets Series.

RAAS provides visual indications on the MFD and audio advisories to improve runway situational awareness during ground operations.

Since this system is not commonly installed across most real-world E-Jets operators, we've chosen to keep it disabled by default.

You can enable RAAS individually for each livery through Settings → Operator in the EFB, allowing you to configure the aircraft according to your preferred operator.

#### A More Immersive Sound Experience

Not every improvement is found on an MCDU page or flight display. Some of the most noticeable changes are simply things you hear.

For this update, we've revisited and remixed a considerable part of the E-Jets' sound environment.

This includes engine starts and windmilling, air conditioning packs, GPU and APU sounds, avionics bay ambience, rain, ground roll, landing gear, spoilers, and the stick shaker.

We've also introduced a more detailed fuel-injection sound effect during engine spool-up, refined announcements for several airlines, and made numerous smaller adjustments throughout the aircraft.

Individually, some of these changes may seem subtle. Together, they help create a more convincing atmosphere throughout the flight, from the first moments on the ground to engine shutdown at your destination.

Sound is also an area where personal perception matters a great deal, so we're particularly interested in hearing your feedback on these improvements.

#### Enhanced Engine Temperature Simulation

One of the less visible, but technically interesting improvements in Service Update 1 is our new engine residual heat simulation.

Previously, the E-Jets relied on the standard MSFS ITT temperature model, which provides a relatively simplified representation of engine cooling.

We've now replaced this behaviour with a more physically based simulation that better reflects how engine temperatures develop after shutdown.

In practice, this means the Interstage Turbine Temperature (ITT) initially decreases relatively quickly after shutdown. As N2 slows down, however, the rate of cooling gradually decreases.

This becomes particularly relevant during shorter turnarounds.

Real-world pilots have confirmed that even after a 30-minute turnaround, engine temperatures can still remain well above 120°C.

And that temperature matters.

On the real aircraft, the FADEC system does not introduce fuel during the start sequence until the engine temperature has dropped below the required threshold of 120°C.

If an engine start is initiated while the temperature is still above that threshold, the starter first performs a process known as dry motoring. During this phase, the engine is rotated without fuel injection, allowing it to cool down before the normal ignition sequence begins.

We've now implemented this behaviour in the E-Jets.

It's a good example of the kind of detail we're continuing to work on: something that may go unnoticed on a single flight, but becomes increasingly relevant when operating the aircraft through realistic turnaround procedures.

#### Next Up: Native MSFS 2024

With Service Update 1 released, our next major development focus is the transition to a native Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 version of the E-Jets Series.

This is more than a simple compatibility update.

Moving to the native FS24 platform will allow us to address several simulator-specific limitations more directly, including the cockpit lighting behaviour that hasn't always worked as intended in the current version.

There is, however, one important change that will affect the livery community.

Due to the package and folder structure required by MSFS 2024, all existing third-party liveries will need to be updated to work with the new native version.

We know how much the community contributes through liveries, and we want to make this transition as smooth as possible.

➡️If you're a livery creator, please get in touch through [this form](https://fexeo.share-eu1.hsforms.com/2ZprSTrmDS0GIhiQ9May85w). We'd like to provide early access to the updated paint kit so you can prepare your liveries ahead of the release.

Our current goal is to have the first native MSFS 2024 version available before Christmas. As always, the final release will depend on development progress and testing, but that's the target we're working towards.

#### Continuing the Journey

Service Update 1 brings together two important parts of our ongoing work on the E-Jets: new operational capabilities and improvements to the systems already in place.

From vertical navigation and flight planning to engine behaviour, sounds, and performance calculations, each improvement contributes to making the aircraft more complete and consistent.

We also know that there are still areas where the E-Jets can improve. Your reports, suggestions, and feedback continue to play an important role in deciding what we focus on next.

Our aim is not simply to add more features with every update, but to keep developing an aircraft that feels more authentic, reliable, and rewarding to fly.

Thank you for being part of the E-Jets journey!
